From Northern New Jersey, Saxophonist, Kevin Carter, also known as “K.C.”, is unapologetically talented! From his personable, fun-loving and outgoing vibes, it’s easy to see why Kevin is a musical asset to OPOV Band. Although Kevin is one of two new members of the band, it’s no match to what he does with his Sax. Kevin has been playing the saxophone for over 20 years now, but he has also sang and been a member of many church choirs. He has been a lover of music all of his life. Kevin was in high school when he realized whatever he decided to do with his life, music would be heavily involved. He discovered Kirk Whalum and “The Gospel According to Jazz” chapter 2 and thereafter. He began his own musical journey. Kevin has taken to the music likings of Delon Charley, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollin, Grover Washington, Boney James, Gerald Albright, Joshua Redman, Branford Marsalis and John Legend. He also adds Al Jerreau, Marvin Gaye, Prince; Michael Jackson and many more… All of these artists and musicians have helped to shape Kevin’s musical style and approach. When Kevin is not perfecting is craft, he’ll quickly play video games, watch movies and a little television and workout.
Kevin is currently a proud member of the Greenlight Band; a band started by Kevin, Tristan Martin and Elijah Davis. The Greenlight Band has played Jazz in the Park and Perfect Note Jazz Club. He is also a member 313th Army Band, where he has been a member for 9 years. Kevin has had the opportunity to perform a diverse repertoire of music with talented, like-minded performers on stages for audiences as diverse as the music OPOV Band plays, Kevin looks forward to original music from the band and desires to reach a level of cohesion and consistency that allows the band to perform full-time and still fully support and sustain their families financially. “We love what we do and I’d love to do music for life.”
