Biography
OPOV Band welcomes, Saxophonist and music extraordinaire, Joseph Hill to the band. Joseph is an R&B/Pop/Jazz Saxophonist Songwriter, lyricist, ASCAP recording artist and producer. He is an all-around fun guy who loves music, life and family! Affectionately known as “Joe,” and often referred to as the “Joe Hill Experience,” he has truly earned the right to the title. OPOV Band is truly blessed and privileged to share the stage with Joe. From the unique way he creates a story through music, to leaving fans captivated by the movement of fingers to keys and high energy, he leaves a lasting impression on those who have experienced him.
Joe Hill’s musical journey began in Mobile, Alabama, where he was born into a family deeply rooted in creativity and performance. At eight years old, his family relocated to Detroit, Michigan, following the musical career of his father — a gifted songwriter and musician signed to RCA Records. Joe’s father wrote for several artists on the label and notably performed at President Ronald Reagan’s inauguration, exposing Joe to a world of professional artistry at an early age.
Surrounded by music, Joe’s passion was sparked by the jazz legends his father listened to, including Charlie Parker and John Coltrane. Encouraged to pick up the saxophone, Joe immediately fell in love with the instrument. As he developed his sound, he drew inspiration from contemporary greats such as Grover Washington Jr., Kirk Whalum, and Gerald Albright — artists whose styles helped shape his own expressive, soulful approach.
Joe went on to earn a Bachelor of Music Technology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, further refining both his performance and technical skills. His dedication to the craft and his dynamic stage presence have carried him across the United States as a professional musician.
Throughout his career, Joe has performed with or opened for renowned artists including Kirk Franklin, John P. Kee, Deborah Cox, and many others. His rich musical lineage, technical expertise, and heartfelt artistry continue to define him as a sought-after performer and a compelling musical voice.
